What happened to the Clarks is a true story that just occurred. We hope it helps you illustrate to your client why booking through a tour operator is worth it!
The Facts: The Clarks were heading to Costa Rica on a trip they had planned 6 months prior. En-route, they were notified that the airplane was diverted to Panamá due to a volcanic eruption that had closed the airport in San Jose. Fortunately, they had purchased trip cancellation insurance, which pays for itself in this instance, as it should cover for the unexpected additional expenses they will incur. What trip cancellation insurance does not cover is the missed vacation time or the stress of having to rearrange the itinerary or not knowing how to resolve things now that you are arriving a day later. We all know starting a trip on the right foot is imperative to a great vacation. This situation could go one way or another.
The Resolve: Luckily for the Clarks, they booked their trip through one of Costa Rica Sun Tours’ agent partners. They notified their travel agent who notified us. We were informed of their new flights for the following day. Instead of having to spend their first night in San Jose they spent it in Panama and the following day their guide was at the airport to greet them and transfer them directly to Arenal. Their itinerary was rearranged seamlessly before they even arrived. Understandably still a little stressed from the unplanned change in their trip, they mentioned something like “I could do with a beer just about now” so we picked up on this and as a surprise we had a couple of cold ones for them, free of charge for their trip up to Arenal. What started off as a nightmare of a trip was suddenly turning into a trip of a lifetime!
