Costa Rica has tough regulations on smoking in public areas. The anti-tobacco constitutional bill bans smoking in places such as bars, restaurants, public buildings, bus stops and taxi stands.  Offenders get heavy fines and could lead to the temporary closure of businesses caught violating the decree.   The smoke free bill follows guidelines set by the World Health Organization, already put into practice in 10 other Latin American countries.

BE AWARE THAT FINES MAY GO UP AS MUCH AS US$500.00 OR MORE!
