Description of Guide and Guide/Driver Service

Driver/Guide

The Driver-Guide stays with the family or group for the duration of the trip. The cost of his lodging and meals is built into the cost of the trip. For individual travelers it is best to join one of our guided excursions, which have daily departures. If you are traveling as a small group then it is best to arrange for the services of a private Driver-Guide. You will truly enjoy the personalized services of Driver-Guides.

Naturalist Guides

A naturalist Guide leads Costa Rica nature tours for groups from 7 to 15 people or for smaller groups on request. An experienced Guide will know most of the wildlife one is likely to encounter on a tour, where to look for it, many of the bird songs and have an extensive knowledge of the area's ecology. In addition, our naturalist Guides bring along a high-quality pair of binoculars and a spotting scope for showing visitors distant wildlife up-close and clearly. All of our naturalist Guides are experienced and have been working for us for several years.

Birding guides

Our birding Guides are specialists and an essential part of your Costa Rica bird watching vacation. They are expert in finding and identifying the bird species of each area visited during a tour, and will know where to find rare or unusual species. These Guides stay with the group during the nature portion of the tour, which may be a few days or the entire length of the tour.

Local Guides

A local Guide specializes in guiding in the region near where he resides. He is generally very knowledgeable of the area's flora and fauna and hikes with guests for only a few hours. Guests traveling on their own, staying at a beach resort hotel, or taking a day trip tour will often use the services of a local Guide to show and explain areas of interest nearby.

Adventure Guides

Going on a Costa Rica adventure vacation? You need an adventure Guide to get the most out of it. An adventure Guide is the leader in tours such as rafting, canyoning, canopy, biking, diving, and other action-oriented tours. This Guide will know the correct routes to take; explain the safety procedures; attach gear, safety harnesses and helmets; and guide and assist participants during the activity.

Transfer Guides

A transfer Guide is either a Driver-Guide or an escort Guide who travels with you as a host for part of a day during a transfer from one area to another. His job is to inform you of your subsequent activities, explain what you are seeing during your travel, hike with you on scheduled stops, assist you as necessary during the trip and make sure you establish your subsequent travel connections.
