Enjoy with your group a guided walk through the Monteverde Reserve, entrance fees included. Located in the Tilaran Mountain Range, the Reserve is one of the premier natural history destinations in Costa Rica. This forest is dominated by massive and ancient trees that are densely covered with small air-plants known as “epiphytes” which include mosses, lichens, orchids, ferns and bromeliads. As you walk through the forest, you may encounter a variety of wildlife and numerous resident endemic birds of the high mountains including Emerald Toucanets, Black Guans and seasonally the legendary iridescent-green Resplendent Quetzal.

You will be picked-up at your hotel for the Selvatura Canopy and/or Selvatura Tree Top Walkways tours. The Canopy tour consists of 15 cable “zip lines” through cloud forest canopy, mesh-covered metal tree platforms with panoramic views and suspended bridges. You will view the forest from among the treetops and using a harness and pulley attached to the cable, step off the platform and “zip” down the cable before rising up to land on the next platform! The Selvatura Tree Top Walkways is located along a 1.7 mile trail through cloud forest and 8 suspension bridges. The Monteverde El Trapiche (sugar mill) Tour is run by a local family who will show you not only the sugar making process, but also farm culture in Costa Rica. The tour also demonstrates how coffee and other crops are grown on the farm. Since there are always many chores to be done on the farm your hosts have made the tour partly ‘hands-on’. Your guide will walk with you through the farm’s small forest and bring you to a pond where you can feed tilapia fish or you can pick coffee if it is in season.
