Sport fishing is really big in Limon on Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast, especially in the north of the province. Here are found the national parks of Tortuguero and Barra del Colorado which offer great angling opportunities. The forested waterways of Tortuguero National Park also harbor abundant wildlife which can be viewed from the comfort of your boat. Area Tarpon (Sabalo) fishing season is from January to June. Bass season is from September to December. Macarela and Barracuda fishing is on the coast while Marlin, Sailfish and Tuna are found, offshore in large quantities. Throughout the rivers near Barra del Colorado and Tortuguero you can find “Guapote” or Rainbow Bass. Please note that the shelter has a “catch and release policy” in order to protect the fish population at all times.
