This vast region in the north-central portion of Costa Rica is characterized by ample rainfall, green pastures harboring beef cattle and tropical lowland crops such as pineapple, sugarcane, papaya, and some remaining tracts of rainforest and wetlands preserved in National Parks and reserves.  Places to visit in this region include: Caño Negro, Arenal Volcano, Rio Celeste, Sarapiqui River for rafting and boating tours, O.T.S. La Selva Rainforest and Aerial Tram among others.
