Our journey begins as you climb in elevation into the forested highlands. Visit the renowned La Paz Waterfall Gardens, an aggregation of gorgeous waterfalls and a comprehensive rescued wildlife preserve. Continue on to Arenal Volcano, a steaming volcano whose steep dark conical slopes rise out of vast rainforests. Drop in on the misty Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and its unique rural Quaker/Tico community. Get a different perspective of the cloud forest, as you literally fly through it on a ¨Zip Line¨ Canopy Tour! Finally experience one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful national parks, Manuel Antonio. Famous for its tropical beaches and wealth of rainforest wildlife such as white-faced capuchin and squirrel monkeys, slow-moving sloths, coati mundis, agoutis, colorful black & scarlet land crabs, black iguanas and a huge diversity of colorful bird species. If the names of these animals seem unfamiliar to you now, they won´t after just a few days with your expert private naturalist guide!

Day 1: ARRIVAL

Upon your arrival at the Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José and after you claim your luggage, clear customs & immigration and exit the airport terminal, a Costa Rica Sun Tours representative will meet you, present you with your land portion vouchers and transfer you to your hotel.

Day 2: PAZ WATERFALL GARDENS & TRANSFER TO ARENAL (B,L)

La Paz Waterfall Gardens

You will be picked up at your hotel for your guided tour stopping first at La Paz Waterfall Gardens. La Paz has manicured gardens; a rescued wildlife preserve with jungle cats and monkeys; a hummingbird garden; live butterfly, frog exhibits and more.  At La Paz you can walk along a clear mountain river on an easy access trail with great views of gorgeous waterfalls. After a delicious lunch at their restaurant set amid the lush beauty of their gardens, you will continue your journey into lowlandplains amid tropical farmlands before arriving at your Arenal area hotel.

Day 3: ARENAL TOUR & TRANSFER TO MONTEVERDE (B)

Hike the lava flow trail at the Arenal Volcano National Park. The flow left an impressive pile of blocky lava rocks that rises about 60 feet high and now offers a panoramic view of the surrounding forests, mountains, nearby Lake Arenal and the Arenal Volcano. As hunger for lunch sets in, you will be taken to a local restaurant en route to Monteverde.  The Monteverde Cloud Forest is one of the worlds premiere destinations for naturalists. Much of the resident wildlife is unique to these habitats. In addition to forest hikes, visitors can enjoy many other area attractions including horseback riding; dining in numerous restaurants; live frog and butterfly exhibits; bird watching; crafts and gift shopping; zip line tours and bridge walks in forest canopies; a visit to a native orchid garden and more.

Day 4: CANOPY TOUR & MONTEVERDE CLOUD FOREST RESERVE (B)

Monteverde is a small community in the Tilaran Mountains and is below the famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. In and around the community founded by Quakers and Costa Ricans, there are many restaurants and exhibits including butterfly gardens, horse rentals, an orchid garden, art galleries, and the Monteverde Cheese Factory. After breakfast, you will have an exciting Zip Line Canopy Tour that consists of horizontal cables to which you are attached by a pulley and harness and brings you soaring along to a series of platforms in the trees!  In the afternoon you will have a guided tour in the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve which harbors wildlife adapted to its cool, misty forest environment including many unique to these habitats.

Day 5: TRANSFER TO MANUEL ANTONIO (B)

In the morning you will be taken overland from Monteverde to Manuel Antonio National Park on the Pacific coast. Manuel Antonio consists of several beautiful beaches, a lush forest growing right to the beaches edge, easy walking trails and abundant wildlife.  Manuel Antonio´s outstanding beauty was recognized recently when Forbes Magazine listed it as one of the Worlds 12 Most Beautiful National Parks.The area outside the park offers visitors a wide variety of gorgeous hotels, excellent restaurants, and many optional activities such as rafting, surf lessons and horseback riding. In the afternoon your guide will return to San José.

Today you will hike with a local naturalist guide in Manuel Antonio National Park. Best known for its gorgeous beaches, the park is also an important refuge for rare rainforest trees and wildlife.  Here you can see white-faced capuchin, squirrel monkeys, sloths, raccoons, agoutis, black & scarlet land crabs, iguanas and a variety of birds.  After your hike, you will have time to enjoy the beaches and tropical Pacifics warm waters.

Day 7: MANGROVE KAYAK TOUR (B)

Today you will explore the canals of the Damas Estuary and mangrove forest near Manuel Antonio with a bilingual naturalist guide by open-seat kayak!  Tropical mangroves are fascinating and important ecosystems that serve as buffer zones to protect coastal land from the open ocean, wildlife refuges and nurseries for marine life. Adapted to a constantly changing environment due to tidal action, the mangrove trees have developed bizarre bases and root systems to survive in the intertidal zone. As you paddle along, your guide will explain the unique characteristics of these marvelous ecosystems and point out the variety of wildlife that lives here.

Day 8: DEPARTURE. TRANSFER TO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (B)

Today you will fly back to San Jose and then be transferred to the International Airport. Check in 3 hours before your scheduled flight home. Pura Vida!
